Naval Gold medal (Captain's) for San Domingo 1806
Captain's Naval Gold Medal for San Domingo awarded to the Honourable Robert Stopford (1768-1847),. Obverse: Britannia, a spear in her left hand and a shield below, standing on the deck of an antique galley, her right foot resting on a helmet, crowned with a wreath by a winged victory. Reverse inscription: 'HON. ROBERT STOPFORD CAPTAIN THE H.M.S. SPENCER + ON THE 6 FEBRUARY + MDCCCVI THE FRENCH SQUADRON CAPTURED AND DESTROYED'. The medal is fitted with a gold rim with a watch glass on both sides to protect the surface. It is suspended by a gold loop and bar, frpm a blue edged white ribbon. Part of a larger group of Stopfords orders and medals.
