Glass bottle labelled ‘Ol. Menth. Pip.’ Bottle empty and has lost its label. Oleum Menthae Piperita, peppermint oil. Evidence of peppermint oil as a medicinal cure-all dates back to ancient Egypt, Rome and Greece. Savory, 'A companion to the Medicine Chest', 1836, p.64. “Oil of Peppermint. Is a powerful and useful stimulant. In spasmodic and flatulent pains of the stomach and bowels, in cramp, faintness, and nausea, it is a useful remedy, a drop or two being taken upon a lump of sugar, or triturated with a little powdered sugar.”
