Rectangular shaped ingot. Obverse: Port broadside view of a Greek merchantman, sail set. Four figures standing on deck. Inscription: 'GREEK MERCHANTMAN'. Reverse: Inscription, 'GREEK MERCHANTMAN C. 500 B.C. One of the most important ships in early history, the Greek merchantman linked Greek colonies and islands to the mainland. It helped spread Greek culture throughout the Mediterranean area. About 60 feet in length with a single square sail and a rounded shape, the Greek merchantman was designed for cargo-carrying capacity.'
