Rectangular shaped ingot. Obverse: Starboard broadside view of the 'Santa Maria', sails set. Inscription: 'SANTA MARIA'. Reverse: Inscription, 'SANTA MARIA 1492. Aboard the Santa Maria Christopher Columbus completed one of history's most important voyages of discovery. The "Santa Maria" was Columbus's flagship and the largest ship under his command. She is described in Columbus's logbook as a "nao" a type of Spanish merchant ship.'
