Since ancient times, the graceful Arab dhow has plied the trade routes from the Persian Gulf and Red Sea to the ports of East Africa. These sturdy lateen-rigged craft are among the world's oldest commercial vessels, and a few are still being built and sailed according to time-honored tradition.'
