Obverse: Britannia (Hope?) standing on the shore, her right arm upraised and beckoning, an anchor (R) a ship in the distance (L) Legend: "ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN TO DO HIS DUTY". Reverse: Legend: "PRIZE MEDAL "ARETHUSA", TRAINING SHIP". Inscription: "Presented to Walter S. Stapley for special good conduct while on board the ship". (Name incuse). Fitted with a ring and dark blue ribbon.
