Naval Gold Medal (Captain's) for the Battle of the Nile, 1798
Captain's naval gold medal for the battle of the Nile awarded to Edward Berry (1768-1831). Obverse: Britannia, a spear in her left hand and a shield below, standing on the deck of an antique galley, her right foot resting on a helmet, crowned with a wreath by a winged victory. Reverse inscription: ' * EDWARD BERRY ESQUIRE * CAPTAIN OF H.M.S. THE VANGUARD ON THE 1 OF AUGUST MDCCXCVIII THE FRENCH FLEET DEFEATED'. The medal is fitted with a watch glass on obverse and a gold rim fitted with a loop, ring and bar, the ribbon is missing.
