Naval Gold Medal (Captain's) for the Battle of Trafalgar, 1805
Captain's naval gold medal for the battle of Trafalgar awarded to Captain Edward Berry (1768-1831). Obverse: Britannia, a spear in her left hand and a shield below, standing on the deck of an antique galley, her right foot resting on a helmet, crowned with a wreath by a winged victory. Reverse inscription: 'SIR EDWARD BERRY KNT CAPTAIN OF H.M.S. AGAMEMNON ON THE 21 OF OCTOBER MDCCCV THE COMBINED FLEETS OF FRANCE AND SPAIN DEFEATED'. The medal is fitted with a watch glass on the reverse, and has a gold rim fitted with a loop, ring and bar (the ribbon is missing).
