Letter from Sir John Herschel to Thomas Henderson, Astronomer Royal of the Cape of Good Hope, containing details of the proposed removal of the Herschel family to South Africa, where Herschel was to complete his father's review of the heavens from the Southern Hemisphere. It includes details of Sir William Herschel's 20 ft telescope, refurbished and transported to the Cape of Good Hope. Herschel is eager to have Henderson's advice on a suitable site for observing.
