National flag of the USA (1912-1959)
Machine stiched nylon flag with a cotton hoist and a rope halyard with two brass clips and a ring attached. The maker's name and address is stamped on the hoist and '5.14 x 9.77'. The flag has 48 stars and dates from the period before Alaska and Hawaii joined the union. This design was used by the United States during both world wars and the early part of the Cold War. Commercial production of nylon began in 1939 in the United States.
