'Asphalt works at Port Arthur seen from ship'

This is one of 262 drawings and 2 paintings presented to the Museum by the artist's family in 2012, and related to John Kingsley Cook's wartime service in the merchant navy between December 1940 and August 1945. This was drawn on the back of a piece of navigational chart, during John Kingsley Cook's first trip to the United States. The verso bears the censorship stamp, signed and dated: 'passed for publication, 15 August 1941'. Inscribed at the back with the words: 'Asphalt factory, Port Arthur'. Cook was in Port Arthur around February-March 1941.
