'Negros seen from the train'

This is one of 262 drawings and 2 paintings presented to the Museum by the artist's family in 2012, and related to John Kingsley Cook's wartime service in the merchant navy between December 1940 and August 1945. This was drawn during Cook's first trip to the United States, as he was on his way to Galveston, Texas, where his new ship was being refitted. Verso: figure seated at the table of a restaurant, and waiter. The inscription contains historical and offensive terms.
