Patch box
Oval patch box with a mirror inside the lid, commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) and the battle of the Nile, 1798. The surface is enamelled, the base and sides in pale pink. The lid is painted with a warship in full sail on a calm sea, on the stern 'Vanguard'. Inscribed above 'NELSON'S VICTORY 1ST OF AUGT 1798'.
