Submarine cable section
Submarine cable. Cylindrical with metal bands at either end. Seven copper wires coated with four layers of gutta percha alternating with four of Chatterton's compound of gutta percha covered with a cushion of tarred jute. The outer sheathing consists of twelve iron wires, the outside covered by tarred hemp and compound.
