Warship (1741); Sixth rate; Sloop; 24 guns

Scale: 1:48. A Georgian full hull model of a 24-gun, sixth-rate sloop (circa 1741). The model is decked.

The 1741 Establishment saw an increase in the size of 24-gun ships and in their armament compared to the 20-gunners of the 1733 Establishment. They were 112 feet in length and 32 feet in breadth and weighed 498 tons burden. They carried two 9-pounders on their lower decks, twenty 9-pounders on their upper decks and two 3-pounders on their quarterdecks. They often saw service abroad. The ‘Bridgewater’ and the ‘Tryton’ were both run ashore and burnt at Cuddalore, India to avoid their being captured by the French during the Seven Years War.
