Box lid

An oval tortoiseshell box lid attached to a metal mount, which is hinged and seperated from the base of the box. Set into the lid is an oval, watercolour miniature of a male sitter with powdered white hair that is tied back with a black ribbon. The sitter is wearing a white neckcloth and a cream jacket with gold braiding and buttons. The miniature is glazed and has a metal frame, which is patterned. Inside the lid is a gilt plaque, which is inscribed: 'Presented by H. NELSON R.N. to Captn Berry R.N. as a memento of Aboukir Bay 1798'.
