HMS Sultan (1870); Warship; Battleship
Scale: 1:48. A half block model of the port side of the battleship HMS Sultan (1870), made entirely in wood and painted dark brown below the waterline, a narrow white stripe above and black above the waterline. The paint finish is badly cracked and crazed. Hull details include a ram bow, a large forward gun mounting inset, projecting central battery mounting amidships, long interrupted row of square portholes, rudder, and a well for the propeller which is either missing or was not originally fitted. Other fittings include stump bowsprit, foremast, mainmast and mizzen mast, and two lozenge-shaped funnels, painted black. The model is displayed on a backboard painted off-white with a mahogany-stained frame with frame edge (left-hand side of frame missing).
