Full hull model; Rigged model; Spritsail sailing barge; Plank-on-frame
Scale: Unknown. Full hull model of a spritsail sailing barge made largely of wood with metal fittings. The hull is built plank-on-frame and has been stained and varnished a light mahogany varnish. The deck is made possibley from a single sheet of wood with the individual planks scored and stained in, the whole of which has been stained and varnished. Either side of the hull amidships are a pair of wooden leeboards with metal supports and strapping. On deck is one large rectangular hatch complete with fifteen boards and forward of the mainmast a smaller rectangular hatch complete with four boards. At the stern is a large curved sheet-horse just forward of the steering wheel which is mounted on top of a raised skylight and coambing. The rudder is hung on the stern post with gudgeons and pintles and a large metal rod with an eye at the top, together with a metal open frame tiller rigged to a geared drum. The masts and spars include a mainmast fidded with a topmast and a small mizzen, both of which are located in metal tabernacles on deck. There is also a large sprit and a small boom together with an oar and the remains of a house flag. The whole model is mounted on a pair of wooden crutches which are secured to a rectangular polished and varnished baseboard.
