Scale: 1:24. A sectional model depicting the elliptical stern of the HMS Diamond (1848), a sixth rate 28-gun frigate. The model is made almost entirely of wood, and is painted black above the waterline with the traditional two white stripes along the gun decks, while below the waterline the model is painted a copper colour to indicate copper sheaving. The hull is complete with a pair of channels above the gun deck and just before the quarter galleries, on which are rigged chain plates and five deadeyes. The quarter galleries and flush stern gallery are complete with thirteen glazed windows, some of which are dummy, but others include a working shutter, and the three middle windows the lower halves of which can be hinged to probably work guns. The solid bulwark above the gun deck is fitted with two parts which are hinged along the lower edge so as to work the gun(s) on the upper deck. The rear of the stern galleries includes vertical pillars between windows decorated with a floral motif in gold paint, together with the name "Diamond" painted along the lower taffrail on a blue-green background.

Internally the model is finished a dark green on the gun deck and a creamy white on the upper deck, together with simulated planking painted on it and grained. On the upper deck are a series of circular and arch shaped brass raised rails fixed to the deck used for transporting and firing the gun(s) from side-to-side or over the stern. At the far end of the section the hull and deck planking has been painted on with ink and grained to show the various components of the hull structure, such as frames, planking and shelf beams. On both the gun decks is painted a brown circle indicating the mizzen mast.

On the underside of the upper deck, hand written in pencil, is inscribed "Rec.d in Model Room from Surveyors Room Feb.y 4/49".
