Recreation vessel; Yacht; Cruiser yacht

Scale: 1:12. A model of a cruising yacht (circa 1930) built by Morgan Giles shipyard that was probably made to show a proposed interior layout to the future owner of the actual vessel. It is basically a hull model with the deck removed and the effect is a bit like looking into a doll’s house, with the roof taken off. The bulkheads are all present and we can see all the cabins, doors, and passageways, and their relationship to the hull form and fixtures such as the masts, portholes and rudder. For a utilitarian model it has been superbly made and finished, a showcase for the talents of the company that made it.

The Morgan Giles shipyard was established in Teignmouth in 1920, and was a prominent feature on the waterfront until its demise in 1964. The yard quickly became well known for its racing punts, innovative racing dinghies, luxurious yachts and the ‘Monaco’-class fast cruisers.
