Button, Royal Naval uniform: pattern 1843-1891
Seven buttons have a rope twist edge. Within a raised circular border on a lined background is a pre-1901 crown above a fouled anchor where the rope goes under the right-hand side of the stock, then over the shank to the left and then under the shank to the right to finish under the right arm. Used for commissioned officers until 1891.
