Boat's Liquid Compass and Binnacle

Bowl-Grey painted brass, with glass bottom filer plug at side of large annular bubble-trap. Heavy balancing ring filled around base of bowl. Inside of bowl silvered and has four black lubber lines painted on side. The verge glass has four corresponding lubber lines scribed on underside in form of cross. Verge ring graduated to 360 degs. Verge glass has brass spigot at centre to accommodate azimuth sight. Mounted in grey painted brass gimbal ring 7.8" (20cm) diameter.
Card - 5.15" (13cm) diameter white painted mica with black markings, graduated to 32 points and to 360 degs. Has two 3.9" (10cm) cylindrical floats mounted below card.
Needle-Two contained in floats.
Pivot- Stem attached at centre of bottom glass, carries a pivot point which engages in cone-shaped jewelled pivot cup attached at centre of card by a wire framework.
Binnacle- Brass, cylindrical 8" (22.5cm) diameter. Fitted with two handles at sides. One side has a glazed aperture with socket for a lamp. A curved metal plate slopes upwards from lower edge of lamp aperture; this and interior of binnacle painted white to reflect light to bottom of bowl. Fitted with a flat-topped hood with glass top. Clips are fitted in hood for tools and spare parts (missing).
