Sessions overview
Entry level: Entry Level 1 and Entry Level 2
This course takes three sessions to complete. Each session is adapted to the needs of group.
During the course, each learner will receive a skills book to record the entry level skills they develop and demonstrate. At the end of the course, each learner will receive their skills book and certificate of participation as a record of their achievements.
After completing this course, teachers can enquire about further work experience and volunteering opportunities at Royal Museums Greenwich for learners with SEND.
Week 1: Learning
Learners focus on familiarisation and enquiry. They are introduced to the museum as a workplace, handle maritime objects with care, and use research skills to find the related exhibits in the Sea Things gallery. The first session ends with learners choosing a favourite object to focus on for the rest of the course.
Week 2: Living
Learners practice identifying appropriate museum staff to ask for help and learn how to ask politely. They take part in a practical "Finding your way" activity, navigating the museum independently with their group to find specific locations and, if they wish to, interact with museum staff.
Week 3: Working
Learners combine the skills learned from the previous weeks to complete a workplace-based task. Acting as curators, they create a short video presentation about their chosen object in the Sea Things gallery.
Please bring school iPads or tablets, if you have them, to record the presentations.
