Tanzanian and South London-based artist, Sarah Hawke, explores the relationship between Brixton, India and Tanzania in her recent commission enjoy the power of unity, a crochet Kanga which responds to the themes of Britain's relationship with India in the Traders gallery of the National Maritime Museum.

Hear Hawke talk to artist Anju Kasturiraj about the processes involved in her artwork and the themes she drew upon, including Britain’s legacy of oppression, the Black British Power movements of Brixton to Tanzania and India’s independence movements.

enjoy the power of unity is on display from 2 July – 7 August in the gallery Traders: the East India Company and Asia at the National Maritime Museum.
