An online version of our on-site Introduction to Astronomy course, perfect for those who cannot travel to the Observatory.

An astronomy course for absolute beginners, led by an engaging tutor from the Royal Observatory Greenwich, the home of time and space.

This six-week course is for people with no prior knowledge of astronomy. It offers a basic introduction to the subject from historical, scientific, and practical perspectives. 

It is an excellent stand-alone course, but can provide a stepping stone to other introductory courses, such as Amateur Astronomy for BeginnersIntroduction to Astrophysics and the online course Introduction to Astrophotography.

This six week course will run twice in the 2022/23 academic year on Mondays:

  • 12th September - 17th October 2022
    • Please note: The second session in this six week course will be moved to Tuesday September 20th. This class will be recorded and both the recording and class material will be emailed to all students. 
  • 17th April - 22nd May 2023

Note: This course will be held online via Zoom. This course is ideal for learners who are not in commutable distance to London or cannot travel to Greenwich.
