Ings, Derek, BISN Co. Officer: Letters HS CHANTILLY, second voyage (16 January to 20 June 1945).

Letters numbered 1-45. This group begins with Ings in (and anchored off) Southampton in December 1944. In letter no.27 he complains that the ship is 'getting far too militarised'. Around this time, spring 1945, they are sailing around India. He describes in great detail all the 'grand times' he has in various ports, in Merchant Navy Clubs and similar places, and decribes meals he has eaten and conversations he has had.
