Letters numbered 1-25. This group begins with the CHANTILLY sailing out of Newport towards Gibraltar then onto Algiers. He describes the weather, the antics of his friends and colleagues, books he is reading, swimming in the Dead Sea, and descriptions of other places on the voyage. This group of letters also includes descriptions of celebrations after the end of the war.
