Letters from merchants and British consuls in Portugal, plus related papers, 1799-1806

Papers relating to convoy protection and prizetaking: Letters to Bond in command of the schooner HMS NETLEY (1798), from merchants and British consuls in Portugal, plus related papers:
(1) Letter from John Whitehead, the British consul in Porto, sent to commanders of British warships, requesting their protection of merchant vessels, dated 22 April 1799. On the same folded sheet is the draft of a reply from Bond on the NETLEY off Porto, dated 24 April 1799.
(2) Resolution agreed at a meeting of merchants of Porto on 17 October 1799, thanking Bond for his protection of trade against the enemy’s privateers, and begging his acceptance of a gift of plate as a token of their gratitude. With a list of fifteen names (including Thomas Snow & Co.) and the signature of the British consul John Whitehead.
(3) Letter from Joseph Lyne & Co., Navy agents, to Joaquim […] Sampaio, introducing Bond, in command of HMS NETLEY, cruising on his station, dated 9 December 1799. On the reverse is a note made by Bond, an extract from a letter from Joseph Lyne & Co. to Benjamin Tucker, secretary to the First Lord of the Admiralty, dated 1 March 1806. (4) Letter to Bond from John Whitehead, the British consul in Porto, sent on behalf of the merchants Newman, Land, Hunt & Co., requesting protection for the brig DART, master James Rich, with a cargo of 129 pipes of wine, ready to sail for Dartmouth, dated 18 March 1800.
(5) Letter to Bond from the merchants Clamoure, Browne & Co., requesting protection for the EDINBURGH, master Thomas Lisenan, due to depart for London with a cargo of wines on 16 October, dated Porto, 13 October 1800 (1 sheet, 1 page).
(6) Letter to Bond from Thomas Snow, dated Porto, 23 November 1800 (2 sheets, 4 pages). Snow discusses the NETLEY’s latest prize and Bond’s precaution in preventing communication between the prisoners and Porto; also an engagement between HMS MILBROOK (1797) and the French privateer BELLONE.
(7) Letter to Bond from Thomas Snow, dated Porto, 29 November 1800 (1 sheet, 2 pages)
Snow discusses ships in the Brazil trade off the bar needing protection until they have an opportunity to get into the port; the BELLONE being at Vigo and the MILBROOK being in want of hands and ammunition.
(8) Letter from R.B. Whitney, British consul at Figueiro da Foz, informing Bond that he has received intelligence of two stout brigs laden with fish, prizes to a Spanish privateer, being brought into Baurcos Road, with no prospect of them entering the port for the present, dated 21 December 1800.
