'This volume has two sections, 'Coasts of Southern Spain' and 'Southern Part of France' (latter beginning p. 483), each with a separate title page featuring antiquarian and plant designs, and a separate itinerary.

The 'Coasts of Southern Spain' itinerary (pp. 478–479) roughly follows the coast of Spain from the mouth of the Mediterranean at the Strait of Gibraltar to the 'Rupes Pyerenææ' [Cap de Creus] in Catalonia.

Pennant at times relies on the eyewitness accounts of his son David. This includes: 1) account of a bullfight in Cadiz, illustrated by 5 prints from Antonio Carnicero's 'Colección de las principales suertes de una corrida de toros' (1787–90), pp. 324–330; 2) description of 'Mataro' [Mataró] in Catalonia, p. 464; 3) 'the approach towards Barcelona from Calella', pp. 466–467. David toured France and Spain in 1787–1788, collecting information on 'naval strength and commercial advantages and disadvantages' for his father. See Literary Life (1793), p. 31.

The 'Southern Part of France' itinerary roughly follows the French coast from the Spanish border to Antibes. A topographical section is followed by one focusing on natural history, pp. 543–557. Ozanne print series continued from previous French volumes.
