Sketch of yacht Stella

This graphite sketch depicts a single masted, cutter rigged yacht under full sail. The vessel has a gaff mainsail, a topsail set from a small yard and a square foresail acting as a spinnaker, all heightened with white. Distant land is visible on the left and another sailing vessel can be seen on the right. Inscribed, lower left, ‘Stella’, possibly followed by another word. The sketch is undated. It is part of an album of drawings by the marine painter Oswald Brierly (PAF8450–PAF8504), dated from the 1850s to the 1880s.
