Seascape from the 'Castilian'

A sketch of a calm seascape from the 'Castilian'. Everett has used colour to show the relationship between sea, sky and sun. Although a ship is implied in the distance on the horizon, it is brilliance of the setting sun which forms the main focal point. It forms a brilliant light and casts its reflections over the surface of the calm water. Everett sailed in the steamer, 'Castilian', from London to the Mediterranean, between October 1937 and February 1938. This was his last journey to sea, probably because of World War II. the painting is inscribed with the artist's monogram bottom right, and 'Cas' verso. See also BHC0190.
