Schooner Stig, moored alongside a quay

This sheet has graphite drawings of the three-masted auxiliary schooner ‘Stig’ (1902) on both sides. On one side, the vessel is shown in broadside view alongside a quay. The drawing is inscribed ‘Stig @ Bleket’ at top left. There is a further, less legible inscription at top right, possibly ‘Blecket …. Schleswig’. There is also a drawing of crossed flags and text, perhaps ‘STIG’, at lower left.

On the other side of the sheet is a bow view of the ‘Stig’. It is also inscribed ‘Stig @ Bleket’ top left and at top right ‘3.1.34 / Stig aux Bleket / from Coleraine’. There also a further inscription on the left, which is difficult to read.

The depicted vessel was built in Denmark as the ‘Rossing’. In 1931, it was purchased by A. Isberg in 1931 and renamed ‘Stig’. It was fitted with a single screw auxiliary motor in 1932 and had wireless fitted, hence the aerial between the main and mizzen masts in these sketches. The text indicates that the vessel was at Bleket on the Swedish west coast on 3 January 1934, having apparently arrived from Coleraine. In the steamer section of Lloyd’s Register for 1934, the port of registry of the ‘Stig’ is given as Stockevik but, in the sailing vessel section, it is given as ‘Bleket’. These two places are on either side of a bay or inlet on the Swedish coast.
