Badge and Star: Order of the Bath, 2nd class (civil)
Badge of the Order of the Bath awarded to Astronomer Royal, Sir George Biddell Airy (1801-1892). He became a Knight Commander on 17th June 1872. Badge: Oval of gold filigree work, consisting of a bandlet bearing the motto: 'TRIA.JUNCTA.IN.UNO'. In the centre, a device of rose, thistle and shamrock, issuing from a sceptre and three crowns. The badge is suspended from a crimson ribbon.
