Legend: "TO COMMANDER J.POLE, R.N. MDCCCXXXIV". Below: "SOCY. INSD. LONDON 1753". "FOR HIS IMPROVED CARRIAGE FOR LONG PIVOT GUNS ON BOARD SHIP". Fitted with an ornamental bar forming a rope and anchor and dark blue ribbon.
