Sir Edward Berry, 1768 - 1831, Rear-Admiral of the Red

Oval miniature of Captain Sir Edward Berry, turned to sitter's left but with the head turned to face the viewer. It is executed in watercolour on ivory and contained within a gilt oval suspension frame, with a plait of hair in the back. It has an identifying inscription.

Berry was Nelson's flag-captain in the 'Vanguard' at the Battle of the Nile in 1798 and is shown here in captain's uniform of 1795-1812 pattern, wearing his Nile medal. This miniature is one of a pair with MNT0051.
