Titania

Watercolour drawing of the ship Titania. On the back of the drawing handwritten in pencil ' Ship Titania. Launched November 1866 for Shaw, Lowther & Maxton, London. Composite, 1222 tons, with iron lower masts. Length 200ft. Beam 36ft. Depth 21ft. Main mast 146ft. Mainyard 76' 6". Best run 453 miles in 27 hours (16 knots). Spars cut down in 1872. Sold 1894 to Italians, Maresca of (writing slightly illegible but could be Castellamare ?). Broken up at Marseilles March 1910. First master Robert (writing slightly illegible but could be Deat ?) then Burgoyne and Dowdy. Bought Hudson's Bay Co 1885'.
