In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

We find that William Whitfield has a carries or gangreen [gangrene] of the sternum which will never be perfectly cured. We likewise find another wound in the crown of the head which must needs leave him with a great weakness and also affected by a fistulous tear in the palate which must probably, at some time or other, endanger his life.
