In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

There are several seamen in town pressed to serve in His Majesty's fleet, who by reason of the present frost cannot be put aboard tenders and sent to Chatham by water. The Rt. Hon. The Lord Berkeley, Admiral of the Blue has proposed to send them to Chatham by land under press gangs and you are directed to allow them subsistence money according to the practice of the Navy until they are put aboard the ships at Chatham. You are to take care that the press gangs attending the men shall be checked out of victuals of the ships on tender during the time they are allowed subsistence.
