Helmi (1892); Merchant vessel; Cargo vessel; Three-masted barque

Scale: 1:8. Accommodation model built within a plywood box construction depicting the cook's galley on board the Helmi (1892), a Finnish sailing cargo barque. It has been designed and built to be viewed from the front edge which is finished with a black surround. The model is complete with a whole variety of fittings together with two scale figures; the cook seated and reading a paper, and further back in the cabin, a crew member who is building a ship model on a wooden table. This model was commissioned for a Museum display entitled "Living at Sea" and as such was wired for internal illumination.
