Bittern (1890); Cargo vessel; Service vessel; Fishing vessel; Yawl; East coast beach yawl

Scale: 1:12. A full hull model of the East coast beach yawl Bittern (1890) made entirely in wood with wood, metal and organic material fittings and painted in realistic colours. The clinker-built hull, double-ended hull is painted black below the waterline, white above and has a dark wood strake on which is painted a narrow blue stripe. The long flat-bottomed rudder is similarly painted black and white. The depicted vessel is two-masted and lug-rigged with a cream-coloured sail set on each mast. Other features include thwarts, anchor, two boat hooks tiller and boom. The model is displayed on a pair of shaped wooden crutches connected by two stretchers.
