Drawing instruments belonging to Arctic explorer, Admiral Sir George Back (1796-1878) presented to him by Princess, later Queen Victoria. Tortoiseshell instrument case, silver mounted, fastened with two swivelling hooks. Lined with red velvet. Contains dividers, ruling pen and ruler. On a silver plate on the lid 'Capt. Back RN 24th Novre 32, Victoria'.
