Medicine chest

Red velvet lined wooden chest with brass fittings and brass flush handle on lid. Contains fourteen bottles, pestle and mortar, balance and weights, measuring phial, bone spoon, palette knife. Four bottles have leather covers tied over the stoppers. Also contains two booklets 1/Useful medicines for the Household 2/Bonds Companion to the Medicine Chest. Belonged to Lieutenant W.H. Childers d. 1869, at that time commanding the gunboat 'HMS Flirt' (tender to 'HMS Black Prince').
