Nowhere does Christmas quite like Greenwich. Whether you want to glide around the Queen’s House Ice Rink, snap pictures of twinkling lights or feast on festive treats at Greenwich Market, the Royal Borough is packed with Christmas charm.
Here, we reveal some of the unmissable events taking place this festive season.
Go ice skating at a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Set against the backdrop of the Queen’s House, our outdoor ice rink is the perfect place for a magical Christmas adventure. Open now until 9 January 2022 (with the exception of Christmas Day), the rink boasts views of the Canary Wharf skyline and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Maritime Greenwich.
Make sure to soak up the festive spirit and enjoy a range of winter treats, including indulgent hot chocolates and Baileys coffee from Benugo’s catering stall. If you’re after some heartier fare, head to the Parkside Café in the National Maritime Museum or stroll over to Greenwich town centre for a range of restaurants, cafés and bars.

Four world-class attractions, one stunning location – open every day this season (with the exception of 24-26 December).
Light displays, Christmas grottos and theatrical performances are just some of the ways cultural venues in the Royal Borough are celebrating the festive season. Click the arrows to see what's on offer.
Add some sparkle to your season and head to Greenwich Market for the annual Christmas lights switch-on. Starting at 4pm on 17 November, the spectacle includes a light procession through the area, led by a jazz band and children from local schools.
This year, the lights will be switched on by singer, songwriter and presenter Jack Rose (JCK). Stroll over to Cutty Sark to see the ship’s decorations too.
Make the festive season even more special and head to the Painted Hall, within the Old Royal Naval College, to watch a new adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. Produced by Goblin Theatre and featuring songs and music, this production will enchant and excite families of all ages. Don’t forget to take in the Hall’s mural paintings by artist Sir James Thornhill.
Back for 2021, St Alfege Church’s ‘advent windows’ initiative sees venues around Greenwich unveiling festive displays to mark the countdown to Christmas.
This year, Cutty Sark will be joining in the celebrations. Look out for our advent window, created by an artist and refugee families in Lewisham.
Expect illuminations, colour and wonder aplenty at Enchanted Eltham Palace this season. Henry VIII spent much of his childhood years at this medieval palace and Tudor royal residence.
As you stroll around the grounds, why not treat yourself to a glass of mulled wine, or hop on a traditional fairground ride?
Wrap up warm and discover some of the cultural highlights in and around the Royal Borough.
