Some weddings are defined by their setting, while others effortlessly bring every corner of it to life. This was undoubtedly one of those celebrations.

Katie and George’s May celebration at the iconic Queen’s House in Greenwich was very much the latter, a joyful, thoughtful and wonderfully personal day that took guests on a little journey of its own.

The ceremony celebration

The day began with a beautiful ceremony at All Saints Church Blackheath, with Katie and George surrounded by their closest family and friends as they made their promises to one another. And, because every good wedding needs a little something sweet, guests were greeted by a charming ice cream van outside the church, offering a nostalgic treat before they boarded the classic red Routemaster bus by Brian Jones Coaches for the journey to Queen’s House. It was the perfect way to bridge the ceremony and celebrations, with guests enjoying their ice creams as they made their way through Greenwich to Queen’s House.

Katie and George were determined to make the most of the stunning Greenwich setting, and their guests certainly did too. With almost every corner of the grounds brought into the celebration, the day unfolded across a series of beautiful spaces, each with its own little moment.

The arrival at Queen's House

Over the delightful sounds of Christabelle Sheum playing, guests were welcomed at the Orangery with a refreshing Rosé Sangria, while our Elderflower & Honey Fizz offered a fragrant, alcohol-free alternative. The canapés were then served, but not quite in the way you might expect. Katie and George wanted their food to feel fun, nostalgic and a little bit playful, while still carrying a touch of refinement. Our Clink fish and chip cones with tartare sauce and minted crushed peas, mac and cheese bites with spicy tomato dip, crispy BBQ glazed cauliflower “wings” and mini cheeseburgers with red onion marmalade kept guests happily fuelled as they explored the grounds, challenged one another at the lawn games, tried – and – failed to uncover the secrets behind Brendan Patricks’ magic, and searched through a brilliant guest and supplier photo collage to find familiar faces!

The wedding breakfast in the Great Hall

As guests stepped into the magnificent Great Hall, the space was beautifully dressed with white and soft pink floristry by Karen Woolven, bringing the grandeur of Queen’s House to life. Delicate gerbera daisies, hydrangeas, astilbe, garden roses and delphinium, intertwined with loose, herbaceous foliage, adorning the urns and tables, creating a romantic yet effortlessly natural setting. The floral styling was complemented by a series of thoughtful personal touches, with handwritten postcards, individually designed using a mosaic of photographs, welcoming guests to their tables alongside place names cleverly created from Scrabble pieces. The perfect little details for a couple who had clearly thought about their guests at every turn.

The bride and groom's entrance

As the opening notes of ‘The Greatest Show’ filled the hall, guests rose to their feet and the room erupted to welcome the newest bride and groom in town. Katie and George made their grand entrance around the balcony before descending via the iconic Tulip Staircase and making their way to the top table. An impressive entrance for an impressive couple.

The menu and wedding cake

The wedding breakfast continued the relaxed, generous spirit of the day. Guests enjoyed bourbon and peach-roasted pork belly with brown rice, crispy shallots and watercress, or velvety burrata with heritage cherry tomatoes, pine nuts, basil oil and microgreens. For the main course, it was corn-fed roast chicken with garlic and lemon Jerusalem artichoke purée, crispy potato pavé, seasonal vegetables and chicken jus, alongside a vibrant green pea and broad bean risotto with grilled sweetcorn and piquillo pepper salsa for vegetarian guests.
And because the couple clearly understood that one dessert is never quite enough, dessert arrived afternoon-tea style, with a tempting spread of dark chocolate brownies, mini key lime pies topped with toasted meringue, chocolate sprinkle mini doughnuts and generous slices of their beautiful pink wedding cake designed by Let Them Eat Cake.

Fireworks display over the river

As the afternoon turned into evening, the celebrations moved to the horseshoe staircase for Katie and George’s first dance, before pop/rock/indie band, Under The Sun, took over and the dance floor quickly filled. Then, as twilight descended over Greenwich, guests were gathered once again on the North Terrace, looking out across the London skyline. The night sky was suddenly illuminated by a spectacular firework display by Alchemy Fireworks, stopping passers-by in their tracks and providing a truly unforgettable backdrop. Accompanied by a carefully curated montage of dancefloor favourites, the display reached its finale with a very personal surprise from George to Katie – a personalised song just for his new bride.

The Undercroft afterparty and late night food truck

The party continued into the Undercroft, where the music carried on and a late-night sweet station was waiting to be discovered. Guests could help themselves to chocolate and toffee-covered waffles, dark chocolate squiggle pops and a nostalgic selection of childhood sweets. And because nobody was quite ready to call it a night, we kept the party fuelled with our Clink mini sourdough pizzas, before George delivered one final surprise, a fire engine burger van by Fire Truck Food, serving up late-night burgers to keep everyone dancing well into the night.

Working their magic after dark, SLX, one of Royal Museums Greenwich's accredited production suppliers, transformed the venue into a vibrant, colourful spectacle. The main façade glowed in a rich midnight blue, while playful flashes of red and white danced along the colonnades on either side, creating a show-stopping backdrop. Bold, fun and full of theatrical flair, the lighting invited guests to pause, capture the moment and soak up the atmosphere whilst giving the house its very own moment in the spotlight.

TESTIMONIAL FROM KATIE AND GEORGE

Katie and George’s wedding was the perfect reflection of them as a couple; warm, thoughtful, fun and incredibly considerate of the people around them. From the handwritten details and nostalgic food to the carefully planned journey through Queen’s House, every element had been chosen with their guests in mind.
A beautiful London setting, a few surprises, plenty of dancing and one very thoughtful couple – we think that makes for a pretty unforgettable wedding day.
