Come along to the National Maritime Museum this Easter and enjoy fantastic, free activities inspired by the natural world and the Museum's collection.
All workshops are free with no need to book in advance. There's something different to do every day of the Easter holidays: check out the event schedule below. Our fabulous Museum character actors will be roaming the galleries every Saturday, too.
As well as these free activities at the National Maritime Museum, there's so much more for families to discover in Greenwich this Easter.

Easter holiday activities at the National Maritime Museum
Time for tea
Sunday 29 March | 11-1pm, 2-4pm | Learning Space
Inspired by the voyages of the Cutty Sark, children can cut, fold and decorate their own Chinese tea caddy. Explore real tea leaves through touch and smell, then add a few inside for a gentle shake and rustle. This is a hands-on workshop full of creativity and discovery.
Tropical fruit printing
Tuesday 31 March | 11-1pm, 2-4pm | Learning Space
How did your favourite fruit come to land on your plate? Find out about how different fruit made their way across the seas, and learn about the people who traded them. In this creative workshop, you will use real fruit to make your own prints on card and make rowing boats to sail them away!
Sailors' SENsory Food (SEND session)
Wednesday 1 April | 11am-1pm, 2pm-4pm | Group Space
Dive into the foods sailors ate through hands-on sensory play for SEND children and their families. Squeeze lime slices, shape salt dough into hardtack, and add ingredients to a giant stew pot collage, exploring textures, smells, and imagination together!
Pacific food and drink
Wednesday 1 April | 11-1pm, 2-4pm | Learning Space
This hands-on session explores the incredible food and drink traditions of Indigenous Pacific communities.
Through visual prompts and tactile resources, families will discover native ingredients, learn how food is gathered and prepared, and share ideas about what grows where.
Sweet treats
Thursday 2 April | 11-1pm, 2-4pm | Learning Space
Explore the fascinating history of chocolate and learn how sweet treats helped rally the troops during World War II. Then get creative and design your own confectionery tin to take home, turning history and imagination into a delicious keepsake.
Sea food
Friday 3 April | 11-1pm, 2-4pm | Learning Space
Channel artist Andy Warhol and his famous soup cans in this colourful craft activity. Make a bright and bold repeated image of tinned food using felt tips and coloured paper collage. The contents of the tins are up to you: the more ridiculous, the better – Peanut Butter and Jellyfish? Tuna ice cream?!
Windrush food plates
Sunday 5 April | 11-1pm, 2-4pm | Learning Space
Soursop, and ackee, and patties, oh my! Based on the Windrush Food Culture exhibition, collage and craft your own plate of Windrush food, using tissue paper and other recycled materials.
Sound and savour (for under 5s)
Tuesday 7 April | 11-1pm, 2-4pm | Ocean Map
Sing songs about food, play with pots and pans, and move together with simple stop-and-start games. Join in a collective 'Mmmm' hum inspired by yoga’s Bhramari as we sip pretend soups and drinks, bringing imagination, sound, and family fun together!
Paper lamp creations

While fish oil can be hard to stomach, it comes in handy when making soaps and lighting lamps. Come and learn about the uses of cod liver oil, while making your own paper night lamp to take home.

An explorer's feast

What would you take with you on a Polar expedition? Find out what foods were best for survival and energy on trecherous journeys. Use modelling clay to make your provisions and card to craft a sleigh to carry your goods.
World recipe book
Thursday 9 April | 11-1pm, 2-4pm | Learning Space
Make your own book to fill with delicious family recipes and recipes from around the world. Use paper and fabric to collage images of food for the cover, making it good enough to eat.
Sweet-shaped keepsakes
Friday 10 April | 11-1pm, 2-4pm | Learning Space
Sugar, spice, and everything nice! Learn about how sugar profoundly shaped British industry and society, becoming a staple in the 18th century. Create a candy-shaped box and fill it with sweets, perfect for gifting.
Botanical mosaic journeys
Sunday 12 April | 11-1pm, 2-4pm | Learning Space
Discover the global journey of coffee, rice, spices, and legumes, and create your own air-dry clay mosaic ornament using these botanicals. Add texture and scent with cloves, herbs, and other materials for a hands-on, sensory art experience.
- These workshops are open to all ages and abilities. You can book free National Maritime Museum tickets in advance or just turn up on the day. Individual sessions cannot be pre-booked in advance, but there will be plenty of opportunities to drop in throughout the day.
