Journal of Reverend Charles Edward Panter (Volume 3: November 1882 - September 1884)

Recorded on the wooden screw corvette HMS BRITON (1869), from Simonstown to Aden, plus operations against the Mahdist uprising while on the Red Sea coast of Sudan in March 1884. A voyage to Portsmouth by troopship ending in June 1884, then a period with the Royal Marines at Walmer. Botanical samples: Entry of 19 June 1892 at Simon's Bay includes a sample belladonna (mentioned). Two unidentified leaves which were loose (now enclosed in melinex) within pages of February 1883, Malmesbury, CapeTown. Unidentified leaf sample (was loose now enclosed) found in pages of April 1883, Kalk Bay. Also unidentified loose botanical fragments (now enclosed) which might be referenced in 25 April 1883 entry; "Went to top of Simonsburg 1,700 feet. Bushes and flowers on summit ..." Also newspaper clippings and lock of hair.
