A Solomon islander sitting on the starboard bow of an outrigger canoe drawn up on the beach on Faisi, one of the Shortland Islands within the Solomon Group. He is looking at the camera. The mast, yards and sail for the canoe are bundled together and stowed across the canoe. A canoe with its sail up is on the background in the bay.

The reverse of the print has the pencil caption: 'Typical Solomon Islander & Canoe / Faisi'.

HMS Sussex arrived at Faisi, Solomon Islands on 6 September 1935 and departed on 10 September 1935 for Tulogi, Solomon Islands.
