Plates of Cook's Voyages - Voyage 1

Vice Admiral John Byron accompanied George Anson on his circumnavigation of the globe (via the Falkland Islands and through the Pacific) in the 1760s. Byron was published (along with Captain James Cook and Joseph Banks) by John Hawkesworth. Byron's mention of signs of a southern continent encouraged the immediate preparation of another expedition to the Pacific. In this work, Byron is meeting inhabitants of Tierra del Fuego, Patagonia.

Illustrations are from Hawkesworth's Voyages to the Southern Hemisphere 1773 - 1777. Contains 64 Prints and Drawings: PAJ 2144 - PAJ2206.
