Recreation vessel; Motor yacht

Scale: 1:24. A half block model depicting the starboard side of a motor yacht made almost entirely of wood with gold or silver plated fittings. The hull is painted in battleship grey below the waterline, and white above the waterline to the deck level. The bow is curved with a plumb stem whilst the stern finishes in a rounded canoe shape with a single propeller and rudder secured to a skeg below. The deck is made from varnished natural wood with the individual planks lined in black ink at all levels, and the stanchions, together with the davits, are silver plated. There is a guard rail which runs from bow to stern. The fittings include an anchor, a davit, a winch, four accommodation hatches, two stump masts, a pair of rectangular skylights, a single stayed funnel painted light brown, and a single ventilation cowling with the hood painted red internally. The accommodation below is lit by five portholes and access below is by a sliding companionway either side of the charthouse. The charthouse is rectangular in shape with a slightly narrowed forward end and is complete with three windowed panels and one door with a ventilation panel where the panelling is picked out in black ink. Just aft of the mizzen mast is a small dinghy rigged to a pair of davits which are rigged outboard of the hull. The whole model is mounted on a rear silvered surfaced mirror with angled mirrors at each end, all of which are displayed in a glazed mahogany case. On the base of the case is an ivory plaque inscribed: 'Motor Yacht. 50 ' - 0" x 11' - 0" x 8' - 0" Scale 1/2 " = 1 FT. Designed by C.L' Estrange. Ewen. 45 Hope St. Glasgow'.
