Minas Geraes (1908); Warship; Battleship

Scale: 1:48. A shipbuilder's model of the Brazilian battleship Minas Geraes (1908). The hull has been painted a dark salmon pink below the waterline, with a thin grey band above and white upper works. The wooden planking on deck has also been depicted. The bow has an elaborately carved, painted and gilded crest and the name "Minas Geraes" appears on the port and starboard stern quarters. There is also a prominent stern gallery. Two pairs of companionways have been rigged on the port and starboard sides. The torpedo nets have been depicted in their closed positions. The superstructure, gun turrets and ship's boats have been painted white. The model is intricately detailed and many of the fittings have been either gold or silver plated, or painted in a gun metal. There are a total of six gun turrets each with two guns, two turrets fore and aft, and two amidships. There are 10 ship's boats including steam pinnaces. There are also two boats on davits at the stern. There are two funnels painted sand yellow with black tops, and between them sits the nest of boats and the single mast. There are a number of signaling lamps, including two in the crows nest. The model shows some unusual features on the decks including chicken coops, two spare propellers blades, and a painting punt. The model is mounted on six modern cylindrical supports and displayed in a bespoke mahogany display case.
